About Poppy's Tea Room

It all started in 2009 when we purchased Waterside, Butts Green for the exceptional views in this beautiful part of the Essex Countryside. Based on the Hertfordshire / Essex / Cambridgeshire borders this is a fantastic place to be and work – so we thought why not share the views with others!

In 2012 Fish Fish Fish was established selling Tropical and Coldwater Fish, Aquarium and Pond Supplies.

In 2017 expansion started with Corsto Web Design setting up offices here and, following the awarding of a grant from The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, work commenced on Poppy’s Barn Tea Room in 2018.

Opening Summer 2019, Poppy’s Barn aims to provide all our guests a relaxing place to enjoy breakfasts, light lunches, tasty cakes and some of the best teas and coffees available – whilst enjoying views of some of the best countryside around and the tranquil sounds of running water.

So if you're cyling along our lovely country lane, walking along the wonderful footpaths, riding through the bridleways or touring the byways, why not take a break at Poppy's Barn Tea Room and soak up the atmosphere.

Our Team:

Reece has a passion for creating mouth watering treats and great food

Baking since he was a young boy, he is an expert in all things sweet and savoury and everything inbetween.

He has worked hard experimenting and playing with many different recipes to deliver only the most decadent of food.

With experience at front of house service, Emma looks forward to meeting and serving you here at Poppys Barn.

Emma is a fantastic host and has exceptional style. Very friendly and alsways willing to ensure your visit is perfect in everyway.

Phil has a passion for great customer service.

Having seen many good aspects when visiting tea rooms, Phil wanted one of his own.

He has worked hard at building and styling the tea room and hopes you will enjoy your experience and our views.

Stuart has a passion for great customer service.

Having dined in many tea rooms over the years, thought why not have our very own where we live!

He has worked hard at sourcing some of the finest ingredients and suppliers for your indulgent experience.

Having travelled far and wide, Stuart has seen and tasted many different foods over the years.

Having worked in the service industry for many years, Stuart wants to continue to offer the highest level of customer service to all his guests and ensure they enjoy the tranquil space that Poppys Barn has to offer.

Our apprentice Daisy is learning every day.

Having watched Poppy, Daisy is becoming the next generation of meet-and- greeters.

She too has watched the project from beginning to end and is excited to greet new customers – when not sleeping!

Poppy has been here since the beginning.

She's overseen all the building works and improvements over the years and seen many changes.

Our official 'meet-and-greeter' is often seen welcoming our guests when she's not sunbathing or having her belly tickled!

Parking Facilities

Whether walk, cycling or driving to Poppy's we have plenty of space.

Walkers are welcome to park your car and walk from here ....

Cyclists will see specific cycle racks for different bikes ....

Drivers have plenty of outside parking and an overflow car park is available 30m down the road if our car park is full.

Please don't park on the country lane as you restrict access into/out of our car park and make it difficult for other road users.

Facilities for Dog Walkers & Cyclists

Cyslists are welcome in our tea room whatever the weather.

We have different cycle rack facilities to suit different bike styles and models.

Should you get a little middy on your cycle to us, we are pleased to offer you a towel or two to dry yourself or sit so you can relax and enjoy stay.

Dogs are welcome inside and outside. Should you wish to dry your dogs feet or fur prior to entering, we are pleased to offer towels to dry your 'best friend' so they too can relax whilst visiting us.

Access for All

We welcome everyone to Poppy's Barn.

We have designed space for those with mobility needs including access with wheelchairs with our wide opening doors.

Currently,  we can assist you entrance into the tea room or if you have your own ramp, then there is one step to navigate. During 2020 we will have additional seating that has step free access.

Our toilet facilities have been built and designed to fully accommodate wheelchairs and ensure everyone can enjoy their visit to Poppys Barn.
