About Poppy's BarnTea Rooms

It all started in 2009 when we purchased Waterside, Butts Green for the exceptional views in this beautiful part of the Essex Countryside. Based on the Hertfordshire / Essex / Cambridgeshire borders this is a fantastic place to be and work – so we thought why not share the views with others!

Our first "building" was Poppy's Dog Kennel which was built on the front driveway. We're pleased to say we've come a long way since this humble abode!!

In 2017 we were awarded a grant from The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development so in 2018 work commenced on Poppy’s Barn Tea Room and additional space which is now occupied by The Ventitian Plaster Company as a show room - feel free to go and take a look at their fantastic work.

Opening Late Summer 2019, Poppy’s Barn Tea Rooms provides refreshing drinks, freshly prepared foods, delicious cakes and cream teas and a welcoming space for all our guests to unwind, enjoy amazing views over the peaceful Essex countryside - all you have to do is find the right company to share it with!

Whether you enjoy breakfasts, light lunches, tasty cakes and some of the best teas and coffees available - we have something for everyone.

So if you're cyling along our country lane, walking along the wonderful footpaths, riding through the rugged bridleways or touring our byways, why not take a break at Poppy's Barn Tea Room and soak up the atmosphere.

Our Team:

Poppy has been here since the beginning!!!

She's overseen all the building works and improvements over the years starting from the building of her 'barn' on the driveway.

Our official 'meet-n-greeter' she is often seen welcoming our guests when she's not sunbathing or having her belly tickled!

Having travelled far and wide, Stuart has seen and tasted many different foods over the years. He hopes to bring to you some fantastic food and delicious cakes to tempt (and challenge!) your taste buds.

Always striving to offer the highest level of customer service to all our guests and ensure you enjoy your visit to Poppy's Barn.

With Emma's unique style, you're sure to be greated with a fantastic smile and warm welcome.

Emma is a fantastic host, very friendly and always willing to ensure your visit is perfect in everyway.

Emma joined when we first opened Poppy's Barn and has been instrumental in ensuring our guests receive first class service.

Ellen joined Poppy's Barn in August 2020.

With an eye for design, Ellen is fantastic at ensuring Poppy's Barn is kept fresh for all our guests all the time.

Ellen is bubbly and has a lovely personality which our guests get to see when arriving at Poppy's Barn.

Katie joined the team in May 2021 to bring some additional flare to the kitchen.

Katie enjoys baking some of our cakes, preparing high quality food for your enjoyment and sometimes is seen delivering food to customers at our busiest times.

Katie is a fantastic fit with the team.

Tina joined the team in December 2020 bringing much needed support to the team in the 'clearing  up department'

Ensuring all our pans are spick-n-span, utensils ready for use, Tina is a great support to the smooth running of the kithchen at busy periods as well as happily helping with other duties as needed.

Our lateste recruit joined us in June 2021.

Here for the summer (and hopefully during school holidays), Mathilda will be seen clearing tables, tidying up, serving drinks and so much more.

She is a welcome addition to the team and greats everyone with her wonderful personality.

Walkers are welcome to park your car and walk from here ....

Cyclists will see specific cycle racks for different bikes ....

Drivers have plenty of outside parking and an overflow car park is available 30m down the road if our car park is full.

Please don't park on the country lane as you restrict access into/out of our car park and make it difficult for other road users.

Dogs, Walkers & Cyclists Welcome

Cyslists are welcome in our tea room whatever the weather.

We have different cycle rack facilities to suit different bike styles and models.

Should you get a little muddy on your cycle to us, we are pleased to offer you a towel or two to dry yourself or sit on so you can relax and enjoy stay.

Dogs are welcome inside and outside. Should you wish to dry your dogs feet or fur prior to entering, we are pleased to offer towels to dry your 'best friend' so they too can relax whilst visiting us. Dog bowls available outside the main door.

We welcome everyone to Poppy's Barn.

We have designed space for those with mobility needs including access with wheelchairs with our wide opening doors.

Currently,  we can assist you entrance into the tea room or if you have your own ramp, then there is one step to navigate. During 2020 we will have additional seating that has step free access.

Our toilet facilities have been built and designed to fully accommodate wheelchairs and ensure everyone can enjoy their visit to Poppys Barn.
